Offered together, this lot presents a remarkable opportunity to acquire both the original drawing and its carefully made print. Here, Magdalene Ukpatiku diligently preserved Marion Tuu'luq’s artistic vision. It is exceptional to witness such fidelity in the printmaking process, where Ukpatiku meticulously adhered to Tuu'luq's original colour scheme and composition. The printmaking technique, predominantly stencil, is meticulously employed to preserve the gradation and robust forms characteristic of Tuu'luq's work. This careful application ensures that the integrity of the original drawing is translated with precision, maintaining the dynamic and compelling aesthetic that is distinctly Tuu'luq's. Similarly, woodcut is used to apply the same striking cyan around the eyes of the animals, which echoes the intensity of Tuu'luq’s drawing. Adding to the narrative, the 1988 Baker Lake Print Catalogue contains Tuu'luq's explanation of the image, "Seagulls like to eat fish, although this one is a little too large to pick up," providing a glimpse into the playful yet profound nature of her work.
