GEORG JENSEN (Danish 1866-1935)
GRAPEVINE FIVE-LIGHT CANDELABRUM 383A
Sterling silver candelabrum in a grapevine pattern #383A, sometimes
known as the "Octopus" candelabrum. On partially fluted circular base with spiral scroll branches chased with grapes, the central ring finial with pendant grape bunches. Bears impressed hallmarks for Georg Jensen post 1945, Denmark Sterling, and pattern mark 383A.
Measures 10 3/4" high with a 6 1/4" base diameter and top span
diameter of 12 1/2".
The decoration is very distinct and elaborate on this five-branch
candelabrum #383A. As with most of Georg Jensen's designs the
candelabrum is in the Art Nouveau style with the characteristic
ornamental curved lines, organic structures, decorative ornaments of
flora and fauna, and the use of honest and skillfully crafted materials.
This candelabrum was designed in 1920 when Georg Jensen had a
record turnover; during these years, Georg Jensen created more richly decorated silver pieces than normally seen.
