A finely executed & highly atmospheric Barbizon School landscape by 19th century French artist Edouard Louis Boudier (1845-1903). Oil on panel, signed & dated 1874 bottom right, titled front & verso, set within its fine original gilt gesso gallery frame.   Panel dimensions: 10.5" h x 14.25" w. Framed: 19.5" h x 23.25" w x 4" d.  

 

EDOUARD LOUIS BOUDIER (1845-1903) was a French landscape painter working in the Barbizon School method and is recorded in the 2006 Edition of ‘Benezit Dictionary of Artists’ as having exhibited at ‘The Paris Salon’ from 1874.  Examples of his work are in the permanent collection of the Musée Antoine Vivenel in Compiègne, France, as well as the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, France.

 

Provenance: The reverse showing gallery labels for Vicars Brothers, 12 Old Bond Street London, together with a wax seal for William R. Watson, Fine Art Dealer, Montreal.
