An Outstanding Antique Kurdish Bijar Gallery Carpet / Runner Western Persia, Circa 1900
The central field showing a complex pattern of traditional Herati motifs of rosettes & latched medallions against a deep indigo ground, terminating at both ends to triangular designs against terracotta spandrels. Sided by twin guard borders with rosette motifs that frame the main border showing multi-coloured, angular oak-leaf motifs against a camel field. This remarkable flat-weave carpet remains in extremely good overall condition with no obvious signs of repair, showing excellent colour retention and a very acceptable degree of moderate wear.
The intriguing mix of design elements combined with the degree of abrash is indicative of a semi-nomadic, tribal or village manufacture vs that of organized town production.
Measuring 61” x 235” (5 feet wide x 19.5 feet long).
