Attributed to the firm of Morel & Seddon of London
An exceptional piece of English Regency Cabinetmaking, on stylistic and quality grounds alone this table can be firmly attributed to the leading London cabinetmaking firm of Morel & Seddon.
Veneered in densely figured amboyna throughout, the gilt beaded frieze accents the top beautifully. Supported by a finely shaped column with gilt lotus leaf decoration, the whole standing on a finely veneered base with gilt scrolled acanthus leaf feet on inset castors. The swivel top fold out card table with inset baize lining.
Morel and Seddon were amongst the finest cabinetmakers of the early 19th century and had a close commercial relationship with King George IV, being commissioned to provide furnishings for both Windsor Palace and Buckingham Palace.
