An Early 19th Century French Silver Confiturier by Charles Antoine Amand Lenglet, Paris, circa 1835                                                         
 
Charles Antoine Amand Lenglet (1791-1855) is recorded as maintaining a workshop at 32 rue de Bourg l’Abbe in Paris, and having registered his mark in 1823 until 1843.
 
The exquisitely crafted silver frame showing twin foliate-cast hinged handles centred by its original faceted crystal bowl fitted with a conforming & lidded silver collar-shaped spoon holder and ten associated sterling silver spoons. Raised overall upon a spreading circular foot decorated with a gadrooned border, atop a squared base raised on scrolled foliate shaped feet. Bearing impressed makers marks and 1st standard Paris mark for 1819-1838, denoting silver fineness of .950 parts, greater than that of sterling silver which is .925 parts fine. 
Dimensions, 9.5” high x 8.5” wide x 6” deep.                                                                                               
Silver weight, 14.43 troy ounces (449 grams). Silver weight of 10 sterling silver spoons, 2.82 troy ounces (88 grams).                                                                                                      
In very good overall condition, with an early conversion to hinged handles.
 
(The French term ‘Confiturier’ translates in English to 'Jam Holder' or 'Jam Jar', however these very elegant serving pieces later came to be used as sugar bowls or in some cases as caviar bowls).
