Mi'kmaq Oval Splint Box
Discover this beautiful large oval Mi'kmaq box, decorated with incised geometric patterns. Its dark original surface has fine cracks, giving an authentic charm to the whole. The box is curved, jointed and pegged, demonstrating the craftsmanship of the time. There is a small chip on the lower edge of the jointed side, as well as a glued crack, testifying to its history. Originating in Lunenberg County, Nova Scotia, this early 19th-century piece is a treasure trove of Mi'kmaq heritage.
