AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY CHILD’S PLATE

A unique and early 19th century child's plate. Very rare to find in such condition with crisply moulded and hand painted images of a fox, dog, monkey, cat, butterfly and medallions all in vivid colours.
The centre vignette’s transfer inscription reads: “I hope the time will come when every poor child in my dominions will read the bible” and depicts King George III handing a Bible to a child.

Produced in connection with the Lancastrian Schools, of which George III was patron.

Wear around surface and rim are commensurate with age for such an early piece of early china.
