Early 19th century secretary from Nova Scotia having figured maple face, birch sides and pine secondary wood.  The sides and moldings retaining a dark stain, even on densely figured maple, perhaps influenced by more sophisticated Sheraton fancy furniture being made in New England at the time.  The tall thin legs and narrow width are quaint features, as are the blown panels atop the leg posts and inlaid escutcheons.   There is a name engraved on the slant lid which may be an early owner or a kid misbehaving.
