A superb early 19th century American Federal period inlaid figured mahogany liquor chest (decanter box) circa 1805
Masterfully converted into a sumptuous jewelry and watch box, with two marbled paper-lined removable and reversible mahogany trays, the first tray featuring six deep watch compartments with black velvet watch pillows, the second shallow tray featuring slate grey velvet-lined compartments for rings, bracelets, cufflinks & necklaces.
To top off this truly remarkable box, the interior base houses a velvet-lined spring-loaded secret compartment running the entire width and breadth of the base, which is brilliantly sprung-open using a hidden brass lever.
With original working lock and key, and working spring-loaded brass catch for original secret compartment.
Of grand proportions, this jewelry & watch casket measures 9 inches wide by 9 inches deep by 10 inches high.
