George II Supper Table
Ireland, c. 1750
Rare mid-Georgian carved supper table in mahogany. Top carved with 9 double-reeded dished areas, each separated by a carved shell, the middle larger to contain a display piece. On a birdcage support with 4 Doric columns. The tapered support column carved with stop-flutes above a Venus pearl collar. Downswept legs carved with acanthus, trailing bell flowers & further pearls. The feet carved with eagle talons grasping a ball with distinctive knuckles. The eagle being an attribute of Zeus. Original recessed castors.
