LARGE 18TH CENTURY SIEGE MORTAR BOMB
A huge 18th century iron mortar ball for a 12-inch siege mortar. This object was purportedly at one time found near the Annapolis Basin. Worth noting is there is a 12-inch French siege mortar still on the grounds at Fort Anne.
This is not a standard 12-pound cannon ball -- it is a bomb for a 12-inch mortar of the type used at Fort Anne as well as Louisbourg, and measures in excess of 11" in diameter -- I suspect weighing beyond 150 pounds.
It is a rare find for the collector of 18th century ordnance. IMPORTANT NOTE: This iron object is completely hollow inside and does not retain a fuze and does not pose any explosive risk.
