A Very Good Louis XV Period Panelled Buffet in Oak
France Circa 1740
A very handsome & diminutive 18th century Louis XV oak buffet, demonstrating excellent form & fine proportions. The panelled case showing traditional peg-joined mortise & tenon construction, the framed sides inset with floating panels, the front featuring twin hand-carved fluted pilasters flanking a pair of panelled doors with striking hand-carved rectilinear raised moldings. Both doors are hung on barrel hinges opening to a shelved interior, the right-hand door having a foliate ormolu escutcheon fronting a functioning later lock mechanism & key. Raised overall on cabriole front supports & shaped rear supports.
In extremely good overall condition, noting early & later conservation consistent with 280 plus years of use.
