NOOTKA BASKETRY-COVERED POWDER FLASK circa 1890-1900

A magnificent piece of Nootka basketry envelops this late 19th century tin gunpowder flask. Very difficult to get this kind of precise, tight weave around such an oddly-shaped form. This is a good example of an indigenous culture incorporating found or traded objects into their traditional arts.
