NORWAY HOUSE CREE  EMBROIDERED MAT
This exceptional example  of northern Cree silk floral embroidery dates to the 1890-1910 period. 
The style is typical of Cree embroidery work done in the environs of the Hudson Bay trading post at Norway House located in the north end of Lake Winnipeg.   
What distinguishes this example is the quality of the extremely fine floral motif  silk embroidery  applied as five emblems to the centre and four corners of the caribou hide mat.  The floral designs were applied  to the hide with thousands of individual hand stitches. Subtle differences in colours  merge  with the rosettes, petals, wisps and s-shaped sinuous petals that comprise the floral emblems 
 
Measurements:
Dimensions of the mat approximate a square 18.5 inches  x 21 inches
 
Condition:
The five silk floral emblems  are in perfect original condition, the tanned hide mat and fringe has no damage or holes

    TAPIS BRODÉ NORWAY HOUSE CREE

    Cet exemple exceptionnel de broderie florale de soie crie du nord date de la période 1890-1910.

    Le style est typique des broderies cries réalisées dans les environs du poste de traite de la baie d'Hudson à Norway House, situé à l'extrémité nord du lac Winnipeg. Ce qui distingue cet exemple, c'est la qualité de la très fine broderie de soie à motifs floraux appliquée en cinq emblèmes au centre et aux quatre coins de la natte en peau de caribou. Les motifs floraux ont été appliqués sur la peau avec des milliers de points individuels à la main. De subtiles différences de couleurs fusionnent avec les rosettes, les pétales, les mèches et les pétales sinueux en forme de S qui composent les emblèmes floraux

    État: Les cinq emblèmes floraux en soie sont en parfait état d'origine, le tapis et la frange en peau tannée ne présentent aucun dommage ni trou R
