A Fine & Rare 18th Century Silver Mounted Coconut Goblet
Edinburgh 1791
The silver lined coconut shell bowl rendered with relief carved detail featuring the coat of arms, crest, and motto for Campbell of Park, cadet of Lawers, together with a monogram MC below a crest, interspersed with carved palm tree motifs. The bowl features a reeded silver rim over a richly gilded interior surface, raised upon an octagonal silver stem issuing from a conforming & reeded foot.
The underside of the foot bearing Edinburgh Hallmarks with date letter for 1791 and makers marks for noted Scottish silversmith Alexander Gardner. Measuring 7.25” high x 3.5” diameter.
Note:
Alexander Gardner (sometimes spelled Gairdner) is known as having been one of the longest working Scottish silversmiths, working 1754-1803.
