A Fine Pair of 18th Century George III Sterling Silver Sauce Boats, London, 1762
A very handsome pair of early George III sterling silver sauce boats, both showing spot-hammered bellied bodies rising to wavy rims and foliate cast, flying 'C' scrolled handles with acanthus leaf shaped thumbpieces, their fronts engraved with heraldic crests. Raised overall on applied shell shaped knees descending to graceful cabriole supports atop pad feet. Their undersides bearing London hallmarks with date letter for 1762 and partially rubbed makers marks for listed London silversmith John Swift.
Dimensions, 4.5" high x 7" long x 3.75" wide. Combined weight, 400 grams or 12.86 troy ounces.
Given their more than ample sized bodies, these fine sauce boats could easily double as gravy boats.
