George III Inlaid SerpentineCabinet
England, c. 1785
A fine serpentine 2-door cabinet in harewood, satinwood & mahogany with ebony & holly stringing. Figured top string inlaid with an ebony & holly oval, the same woods strung near the edge to mirror the serpentine shape of the top. Similar stringing along the sides & front of the cabinet. The doors with further stringing, concave at the corners. The satinwood ovals on the doors edged with stringing. The "keeled" edges of the cabinet inlaid with satinwood. The harewood & satinwood of the doors veneered onto mahogany. INterior with 3 serpentine shelves. Standing on elegant "French" feet with a shaped apron. Fine cabinetry, down to the serpentine shaping of the sides as well as the front of the cabinet.
