Douglas Lawley  (Canadian, 1906-1970)

Cab Stand,  Montreal

 

Oil on board 5.5 x 7.75 inches

 

Lawley, a life long school teacher and Principal of Westmount High School became interested in painting around 1937. He specialized in horse and carriage scenes on Montreal streets and on Mount Royal often in winter. This would be an early work from his body of work.

The wild Ponies of Sable Island were also a passion.

 

Lawley exhibited at the Art Association of Montreal between 1943-1951.
