“GOOFUS” BY ERICA DEICHMANN
A large 18" x 16.5" painted goofus on wooden panel by revered New Brunswick artist Erica Deichmann.
This piece was acquired from the estate of Claude T. Bissell (1916-2000) and his
wife Christine (1920-2017). Claude Bissell studied at Cornell and Harvard and would later serve as president of the University of Toronto from 1958-1971. Christine was a life-long collector of ceramics and she likely acquired this piece from Erica sometime shortly after
she and Claude entered Canada after their war service in 1945. The painting has recently been professionally framed. It does have some minor scuffing and spotting evident, as seen in the photos. Wonderful colour and design to this piece as the paints are indicative of the
tones so often found in her ceramic works.
