A Very Fine Signed & Dated George III Inlaid Mahogany Tea Caddy, Bloomfield 1815                                               

 

The richly figured mahogany case edged with chevron inlays of exotic woods interspersed by ebony stringing, the hinged lid having an elliptical metal backplate minus its loop pull, opening to expose a mahogany panel inlaid with an intricate border of geometric motifs in exotic woods centred by a conch shaped paterae. The interior housing twin satinwood-banded tea canisters with similarly addressed inlaid hinged lids flanking a cut-glass mixing bowl.

The interior surface signed & dated Bloomfield 1815.   

Likely for 19th century British cabinetmaker William Bloomfield, Stowmarket Suffolk.                  

Measuring 6” high x 12” wide x 5.75” deep
