An unusual French ‘Bishop’s Throne’ in walnut, with carved details to the paneled sides, back, and top, the arms with fluted pilasters and the crown with elaborate and fine carving.

The seat lifts up to allow for standing, and has a carved-face ‘misericord’ on the underside to support a person in a partially-standing position during long periods of prayer.

Circa 1650.
