GEORGIAN PUNCH LADLE, C. 1790
Silver with fruit wood handle, George II dated 1745 silver 'thrupence' coin inset into bowl.
George II, late 18th C. English.
Not an uncommon practice to mount earlier precious metal pieces into more current utensils. These were for display at formal settings, a bit of a 'brag'. The bowl is further enhanced by a conspicuous shell like fluting and gold gilding of the interior of the bowl. The handle is delicately turned with ring and vase.
