PICTORIAL EMBROIDERED SAMPLER -- Perhaps the most charming pictorial
sampler we've had the privilege of finding. This smaller work, measuring
8"x12" not including the frame, features a large central house flanked
by trees, rabbits and deer. The overall symmetrical composition is
nicely opposed by the random flittering of birds around the house. Royal
stylized crowns, as well as the initials AG and AT are embroidered in
several locations. Excellent folk art appeal focusing more on the
pictorial aspect of needlework as opposed to the more common lettering.
This sampler came from a family with 19th century Ontario history.
